What's It Like to Have ADHD?
Friday January 25, 2008
Unfortunately, there are many misconceptions about ADHD. As a result, children with ADHD are often labeled as unmotivated, lazy or problem children. What if those without ADHD could experience what it is really like to have ADHD? Perhaps perceptions would change. They would be more empathetic. They would become better informed, and as a result, they could more effectively implement strategies to help these children succeed.

As an adult diagnosed with ADD at the age of 62, I found your item on the effort to garner understanding for the morass that ADD and ADHD engender to be very good.
Looking back on my own experience, however, I suspect that ADDers would benefit from a like effort to help we ourselves take advantage of the understanding to be gained from a like comparison between linear thinking and ADD radial thinking, among other traits.
Therefore, I submit a reversal of the question to read: “What’s it like NOT to have ADD/ADHD?”. I for one would find those responses extremely interesting and helpful to construct a model of behavior to let me know what I have been missing.
What a great idea, Joseph! I like your thinking. That is your wonderfully, creative mind at work. Honestly, I don’t think you have been missing out on anything…but your idea is quite interesting. Let me give it some thought for how I might proceed.
