Ty Pennington Helps Shine a Positive Spotlight on ADHD

Thursday July 24, 2008

Ty Pennington, star of the ABC hit television show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, recently returned to his hometown of Atlanta to present the Daily Successes with ADHD Scholarship. “As an adult with ADHD, I know that ADHD symptoms such as the inability to focus and pay attention may complicate life at work, home or with family and friends,” says Pennington. “That’s why it’s so important to me to raise awareness of this disorder with adults.”

The $10,000 Scholarship will benefit an adult with ADHD who is enrolled in or applying to a graduate program at the Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta. The arts have always been an important outlet for Pennington and this scholarship will recognize an adult with ADHD in a creative field who has also given back to the community. The objective of the scholarship is to not only recognize achievements, but also to motivate students to continue to focus and achieve daily successes.

The Scholarship is sponsored by Shire, makers of Vyvanse.

I think the scholarship is a great idea. I wish that I could have made it through one year of college, forget graduate school. I’m a single Mom and I have ADHD, LD and on and off…suffer from depression. Sometimes I can’t find my way out of a paper bag. Please let me know when there is money available to those of us who live from paycheck to paycheck at some dead end job, but if a coach were available to us…..priceless…
I am the first one to be thrilled for anyone that gets through school and the icing on the cake, wins a scholorship. Most adults I know with ADHD are “stuck” just like me.

A scholorship for ADHD adults…like a tiny pinpoint of light in a pitch black universe never before imagined for most of us in spite of the common 140+ IQ’s. May this be a beginning… I am also a recently diagnosed ADDer with the single mom symptom trying to struggle through dead end jobs and a class or 2 when I can, but short of the out-of-reach cost of a personal coach, I did complete the affordable 3-course Curriculum for Living through Landmark Education and reccommend it to all ADDers and…well everyone. Also, Thank God for Adderall!
