From our ADD/ADHD Discussion Forum:
"I've so often turned to this forum in desperation. Searching for answers, for help, for advice. My husband & I feel like we've been thru it all in raising a child with ADHD - and we've just reached 1st grade.
Here's some GOOD NEWS for a change. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I want all parents struggling with children like ours to know it does get better. Age and the right supports have so much to do with how our children handle ADHD. And how they grow into it (not out of it).
We never thought we'd make it through these last several years. We never thought school would get better. We never thought our child would be able to do - or be successful in doing- 'normal' things like Scouts, sports, after school activities.
Our message: believe in your children and love them. Get the support and training you need to parent them. Do the best you can to seek out good medical advice. Find your kids the best social/emotional support system you can outside of your family. Help them develop the tools they need to be successful. Know what they're good at and help them know it, too.
Then watch them blossom and fly. There is hope; no matter how young or old our child is. Things do get better."
