Do you ever receive emails of fun photos, comics, stories, lists, etc. forwarded from friends or family? Sometimes these emails are funny and help lighten the day. Other times they are insightful and inspirational. I recently received an email from an About.com reader with a list of “wonderful advice” that is not only practical, but one that can be easily incorporated in to our daily lives to improve health and happiness. I have included the list, slightly modified, below.

Tips for Healthy Living

  1. Get enough rest.

  2. Go to bed on time.

  3. Get up on time, so you can start the day unrushed.

  4. Eat right.

  5. Exercise regularly. You don’t have to be a tri-athlete. Jog or walk to your favorite music, dance around the house, take the stairs instead of the elevator, park at the far end of the parking lot and walk.

  6. Say “no” to projects or activity requests from friends that won't fit in to your time schedule, as well as those you just don’t want to do.

  7. Delegate tasks to capable others.

  8. Simplify and unclutter your life.

  9. Get organized so everything has its place.

  10. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

  11. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time. Don't lump the hard things all together.

  12. Take one day at a time.

  13. Talk less and listen more.

  14. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out ways to let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

  15. Live within your budget, and don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

  16. Have backups: an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

  17. Try to K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

  18. Carry an inspirational book with you to read while waiting in line.

  19. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

  20. Every day, find time to be alone.

  21. Try to nip small problems in the bud.

  22. Make friends with positive people.

  23. Laugh ... and laugh some more!

  24. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

  25. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

  26. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

  27. Don’t forget to be forgiving and kind to yourself.

  28. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for, that you've never been grateful for before.

  29. Have faith.

  30. Be hopeful.
